There's a free mini vacation waiting for your family just around the corner, today and every day. It's your local park!
Check out our ideas for fresh air fun, mark your calendar, pack your picnic and go to the park! Your kids, and their bodies, will thank you for it!
As a parent, be a role model and join in or lead activities. Can’t see yourself swinging from the monkey bars? Most parks have open green spaces that are perfect for a game of catch, Frisbee or tag. Your kids will love having you as a playmate!
Teach your kids the outdoor games you loved as a kid. Some of our favorites:
- Follow the Leader (perfect for jungle gyms!)
- Catch: baseball, football
Get neighborhood kids and parents together for a fun game that everyone can enjoy. Organizing a game of touch football, kickball, soccer or basketball is a great way to get active and have loads of fun.
As part of the park experience, take time to simply enjoy being outside with your family. Walk together. Throw rocks in the stream. Count bugs. Have a family scavenger hunt. See who can skip to the next big tree. It’s fun and good for you!
Are your kids getting bored with your neighborhood park? Explore a new section or switch it up and visit a different park. Don’t forget about churches and schools ... they have great playgrounds, too!
Turn park visits into a reward for good behavior or achievements. Johnny earned an “A” on the big test? Let’s head to the park to celebrate! Suzie successfully cut back time on her phone this week? She earns a trip to the park!
