The Strong4Life Clinic is a multidisciplinary program for families struggling with weight and weight-related health issues. Offering both medical and surgical treatment options, our family-centered, motivational approach begins with complete medical assessments of obesity-related illnesses, nutrition, physical activity and mental health support needs.
We believe treating childhood obesity requires integrated clinical, behavioral, educational and family support services coordinated by a single group to adequately address the issue.
Using our 12-month, evidence-based curriculum, we develop an individualized treatment plan to help families make the sustainable lifestyle changes that lead to long-term health improvement. Additionally, we manage and treat weight-related comorbidities.
The Strong4Life Clinic is a team of medical providers, dietitians, psychologists and exercise physiologists who work with patients and families to provide intensive treatment of obesity through the promotion of a physically active lifestyle, healthy eating habits and behavior changes.
Led by medical director Stephanie Walsh, M.D., and surgeon-in-chief Mark Wulkan, M.D., the team works with patients and families to develop personalized physical activity, nutrition and behavior plans that are supervised and coordinated by the clinical staff to help achieve success.
Patient successes from the Strong4Life Clinic include:
- Reduction of incidence of associated comorbidities such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes
- Healthy weight loss and weight management
- Increase in daily physical activity over a sustained period of time
- Consistently improved nutritional intake
- Improved quality of life and self-image
Patients with a BMI greater than the 85th percentile with a weight-related comorbidity, or a BMI greater than the 95th percentile with or without a weight-related comorbidity, qualify for the Strong4Life Clinic.
