Strong4Life Early Feeding Program

Parents have the greatest influence over what and how their baby eats, but are they feeding their babies the right way? Studies show that a child’s habits (healthy or unhealthy) are hardwired by age 3. That’s why we created the Strong4Life Early Feeding Program. This program is designed to help providers deliver evidence-based early feeding and parenting recommendations for the development of healthy eating habits for children from birth to 3 years old.

Why participate?

In addition to learning about evidence-based strategies to prevent picky eating and childhood obesity, practices that complete the Strong4Life Early Feeding Program are eligible to receive free resources, such as early feeding sheets for well-child visits and Strong4Life books.

Early feeding sheets: The Strong4Life early feeding sheets provide evidence-based feeding recommendations and connect families to web resources that promote and support healthy behaviors from the start. Full-color sheets will be provided by Strong4Life—free of charge— and they are designed to be given out during each well-child visit from newborn to 3 years old. Sheets are available in both English and Spanish.

Books: The Strong4Life books were developed in line with AAP recommendations on early feeding practices and the importance of establishing healthy habits early in life. All of the books are bilingual (in English and Spanish) and will be provided by Strong4Life free of charge. The books are designed to be given out during well-child visits for ages 4 months to 15 months.

  • 4 months: Baby Love (no juice)
  • 6 months: Nana’s Garden (make half your plate veggies and fruits)
  • 9 months: The Big Box (no screen time)
  • 12 months: Backyard Picnic (increase water, no sugary drinks)
  • 15 months: Playtime Anytime (engage in 60 minutes of active play each day)

Who should take the training?

Georgia health care providers delivering well-child care to children from birth to 3 years of age, including (but not limited to) physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, are invited to take the training.
