Parenting simplified: Strong4Life from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
From the moment our children are born, we want the best for them—and that includes keeping them healthy to reduce the likelihood of preventable illness. But with our ultra-busy lives, finding solutions to our biggest parenting challenges from the time they’re newborns until they’re teens (and every stage in between) can be overwhelming. That’s why Children’s created Strong4Life. Strong4Life is our movement to help busy parents raise healthier families. We do this by focusing on three strategies: arming parents with the resources they need at home, training healthcare providers, and impacting children at school and in other environments where they learn and play.
Arming parents: Strong4Life.com
Because parents are the greatest influencers in a child’s life, they have a huge responsibility. Parents are also very busy juggling their family’s needs at home, work, school and everything in between. As complicated as life gets, we think parents can use a little help, so we’ve developed a unique website just for you, Strong4Life.com, to equip parents to deal simply and easily with everything from bedtime battles to picky eaters to avoiding the fast-food trap. How? With easy tips, facts and advice from our doctors, registered dietitians and wellness experts—who are parents, too. At Strong4Life, we want to help parents teach their kids early in life to eat well and be active, because the older they get, the harder it is to break their bad habits. You’ll find everything you need to give your kids the right start and keep them on track at Strong4Life.com.
Strong4Life in the doctor’s office and at school
To help impact kids’ health outside the home, Strong4Life is also in the community. Strong4Life trains healthcare providers to better address healthy habits at well-child visits. We provide school cafeteria staff with the tools and resources to transform lunchrooms and encourage kids to make better choices in the lunch line. Children’s also offers intervention programs such as Camp Strong4Life and the Strong4Life Clinic for families who struggle to get on a healthy track.
Strong4Life School Nutrition Program: The Strong4Life School Nutrition Program provides Georgia schools the tools needed to encourage kids to make smart choices in the lunch line. Why? Because smart choices at lunch can have a huge impact on kids’ health. We combine clever marketing tactics—used by many fast-food marketers—to engage kids, along with evidence-based techniques to train cafeteria managers and staff.
Strong4Life Clinic: Created specifically for families struggling with health issues related to weight, the Strong4Life Clinic provides a warm and nurturing environment of specialized pediatric-trained team members including a Board-certified obesity medicine pediatrician, a dedicated pediatric psychologist as well as a staff of registered dietitians, exercise physiologists and other wellness experts.
Camp Strong4Life: Camp Strong4Life combines summer camp fun with providing kids, ages 9 to 14, who have a BMI greater than the 85th percentile, the support they need to build healthy habits, all with the guidance from our wellness experts.
Strong4Life wellness blueprint: For parks and recreation, after-school programs, camps, youth sports leagues and youth development organizations a wellness blueprint can help identify ways their organization can promote healthy habits. Our wellness hub provides free resources including an interactive online training, fun activity ideas, educational videos and one-on-one support to help create a unique wellness blueprint.
Provider Training: Created by physicians at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Strong4Life Provider Training Program offers evidence-based, actionable information about motivational interviewing techniques, goal setting, BMI tracking and childhood obesity management protocols.
Strong4Life community events: Strong4Life collaborates with organizations to develop grassroots efforts and solutions that are tailored to the needs of local communities.
