Registered Dietitian Program
The Strong4Life RD Program is designed to improve knowledge and skills in the area of pediatric obesity assessment, prevention and management. We also offer training for RDs interested in becoming credentialed to bill insurance carriers for Medical Nutrition Therapy services.
Becoming a Strong4Life Certified Registered Dietitian
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is excited to offer free training opportunities to RDs interested in adding pediatric weight management to their scope of practice. To become a Strong4Life Certified RD, you must complete 3 of the 4 training sessions offered (in any order). As part of the certification process, participants will receive Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs) through CDR and will also have the chance to be part of a network of RDs accepting pediatric weight management referrals.
Training No. 1: Strong4Life Motivational Interviewing
Open to all pediatric clinicians, the Strong4Life Motivational Interviewing Training lays the groundwork for all other trainings we offer. This training is designed to help clinicians initiate effective patient conversations about BMI measurement, nutrition and physical activity. In just 2 hours, our trainers will share effective motivational interviewing techniques and tools to help families set attainable goals to drive sustainable behavior change.
We also provide a free toolkit to equip you with the necessary resources to educate and influence patients and families to choose healthy lifestyle habits that will help prevent and reduce childhood obesity.
This training is approved for 2.0 Continuing Professional Education Units for registered dietitians.
Training No. 2: Combatting Childhood Obesity webinar
Learn about the capacity of Georgia dietitians to meet the needs of the more than 700,000 overweight and obese youth in our state. Training focuses on appropriate application of the Expert Committee Recommendations for Assessment, Treatment and Prevention of Pediatric Overweight and Obesity as well as goal-setting techniques to promote healthy behaviors in children and families.

Training No. 3: Promoting Healthy Eaters webinar
Learn how to identify and screen for eating behaviors and feeding practices that contribute to pediatric obesity and how to implement effective nutrition therapy strategies to promote healthy eating habits.

Training No. 4: Credentialing, Coding and Billing webinar
Walk through the step-by-step process of credentialing and billing for pediatric nutrition services in both private practice and outpatient hospital settings. Training focuses on pediatric obesity and weight management; however, these principles can also be applied to adult care.

The assessment tools:
- Emphasize age-appropriate assessment (ages 0 to 2 and ages 3 to 18) of the division of responsibility between parent and child with regard to eating, feeding, physical activity and sedentary behaviors.
- Feature a behavior-focused ADIME format and can be used as an initial or follow-up assessment to support ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
