Mandated Reporting Training and Resources

Teacher (who is a mandatory reporter) talking to student in the hallway at school

It is never a child’s responsibility to protect themselves. Children depend on the grown-ups in their community to speak up and keep them safe. Whether you are a caregiver, a relative or a professional, you can help the youth you care about grow up in a safe, stable, nurturing environment. Our mandated reporting training can be tailored to a variety of professions and settings to instruct best practices for recognizing and reporting reasonable suspicions of child abuse or neglect.

The Mandated Reporting Training from the Stephanie V. Blank Center for Safe and Healthy Children is updated annually with legislation pertinent to youth-serving professionals, so annual participation is recommended.

From teachers and early care staff, to healthcare providers and foster parents, Georgia law designates certain professionals as mandated reporters of child abuse or neglect. Mandated reporters who have a reasonable cause to believe a child has been abused must make a report to the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) within 24 hours.

The Mandated Reporting Training focuses on how to recognize risk factors or signs that physical and sexual abuse, neglect, child endangerment, and sexual exploitation may be occurring. Participants will also learn about the basics of the mandated reporting laws relating to child abuse in Georgia, including changes to the mandated reporting statue that took place in 2022. In the training, we will also discuss policies and procedures related to making a report of suspected child abuse.

There are currently no live webinars scheduled for the remainder of the year; however, there is an on-demand webinar available.
