Jean A. Welsh, RN, MPH, PhD, has helped guide Strong4Life’s community-based programs as Research Director for more than a decade. As a public health specialist and nutrition scientist, Dr. Welsh’s research focuses on identifying strategies for reducing children’s risk of obesity and chronic disease.

Dr. Welsh has a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's in public health with a focus on community health education. She completed a fellowship in applied epidemiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She then earned her doctorate in nutrition and health science at Emory University. Now, she is a faculty member at Emory University's Department of Pediatrics and the Strong4Life team at Children’s.

As a mother to 4 daughters, Dr. Welsh is familiar with the many challenges today’s busy parents face. She is committed to doing what she can to make the job of promoting the development of healthy diet and activity habits easier for all.
