Beat the Big 4 Preventable Killers of Kids

Green banner with a message for Atlanta to beat the big 4 preventable killers of kids

Unsafe sleep. Drowning. Car crashes. Firearms.

These are the leading preventable killers of kids. On average, they take 550 young lives in Georgia per year. Our team of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta experts believe that’s 550 too many. That’s why we want to help everyone in our community:

  • Understand the Big 4.
  • Build simple safety habits into everyday routines.
  • Learn practical steps that anyone—parents, grandparents, other caregivers and friends—can take to keep kids safer.

We believe that families, neighbors and communities coming together and doing their part will make every child safer. Let's beat the Big 4.

The Big 4 can happen in a second, and they can happen to any of us. But they’re all preventable. We know you can’t be there every second, but community prevention efforts can.

By learning about the biggest risks to kids and taking simple steps to prevent them from happening, we can work together to save lives.

Check back later this fall to download our State of Injury Report.

Whether you’re a policymaker, healthcare professional, educator, leader within a youth-serving organization, or simply care about and advocate for kids, the State of Injury Report is your “why.” With data, trends and insights, it will give you information you need to understand the landscape of pediatric injuries in Georgia—and help you join us in building a roadmap to change it.

It takes the entire community to enact change. That’s why we are seeking help to spread these important messages with families.
